3 tips to tune into your body
If you truly want to step up to your power and to take full responsibility for yourself, you need to hear and participate in dialogue with your body, because that’s where the wisdom hangs out. Did you know this?
Your body is actually able to sense what is coming along waaaay before your mind. If you are very intuitive, you may get a feeling in the gut or solar plexus which, when you feel it makes you pause, stop and pay attention.
But what if you don’t know how to hear what your body is saying? What then? Well, I’m going to share with you the things I use every day to keep that sensing alive and active. Ready?
- 1. FLANNEL your way to feeling! Place a flannel on your hand and with the bony ends of your fingers rub your body all over, bi-directionally. When it’s your first time, I recommend you take time to do a proper maintenance session in the bath and diligently work through the whole body.
- As you work, you may notice ‘electrical’ impulses running through the body; these impulses are actually little surges of energy running through a meridian (energy circuit). Keep working. You may notice tender spots — pay closer attention to these places — work around the tender spot then gradually work inwards until the area is softer. Use your instinct here.
- This process is great for stimulating your lymphatic system so pay special attention to working under the arms and pulling over the top of your shoulders. Work between the bones of the feet too — many pressure points there.
- 2. Switch on your ‘feeling’ monitor that listens and takes note of the messages you start to receive after step 1. You may notice an increase in twinges from your body, especially after going to bed and laying in the darkness (where there is no mental stimulation and your body actually stands a chance of being listened to!)
- During the day, keep checking in with your ‘feeling’ monitor and start responding to what your body asks of you. For instance, if you have a little pain, RUB IT. Your body cannot do this for itself and is asking for help.
- When your body starts to feel tired, either lay down to rest if you can OR get up and move about to bring your energy back up, and take some deep breaths, but always respond. The more you respond, the clearer the dialogue with your body will be.
- 3. Activity is key to keeping your energy flowing. Most people are more energised in the morning so it’s easy to ‘spin your wheels’ then. However, according to Circadian Rhythms, it is more productive to do physical activity around 5–6pm.
- You must find what works for you, but the point is that activity keeps your energy flowing, improves liver function (an organ that is overworked and underpaid in most people!) and improves your ability to FEEL what’s going on in your body.
Feeling is the way to engage deeply with every aspect of your being, unite all aspects of your sensing and draw on the wisdom that lies within you, SO START NOW!
